Liberated People needs your support. This Sunday we will be giving the young residents of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant with a back to school giveaway. The need is much greater than expected and we need more supplies for all those planning to attend.

Please help us fill another 100 backpacks for our local kids. We need your donations today! We can't disappoint anyone. A few bucks right now, and we can fill bags for every kids. Getting them what they need to start the year off right. It's the first step to their success in school, and the future successes of our community. 

The Society for the Preservation of Weeksville and Bedford Stuyvesant History, a.k.a. Weeksville Heritage Center (WHC) is a significant historic American site. Weeksville, presently known as the Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods of Brooklyn, was a well-documented, rare extant example of a “free” independent African American community from around 1838 through the 1930's. This fall WHC is partnering with Enitan Vintage and Liberated People to present Africans in Brooklyn, an interactive contemporary installation. The installation will take place in New York City’s Housing Authority’s Kingsborough neighborhood, located directly across the street from WHC, and is purposed with documenting resident life and collecting oral histories about the lives of people living in this historic community.

Liberated People and Weeksville Heritage Center wants to honor all in our community. An interactive neighborhood art installation will be unveiled Sunday during the school supplies giveaway. Join us.

Acclaimed photographer Barron Claiborne will be there to take portraits of any residents interested in an ongoing effort to keep celebrating our areas history.

Gbenga Akinnagbe will be bring a small film crew to capture the stories of those of us who live in this historic area.Any willing to tell their story is welcome. Please add t the record of our culture in Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant. We will celebrate our past adding to historical record and look to the future by helping our kids prepare for the school year. Come applaud the achievements of Africans in Brooklyn...
