Liberated People Trunk Show featuring DC native Actor/Activist Gbenga Akinnabge
With one shirt on the backs of many, apparel lifestyle brand intersects art, culture, and politics to create change.
Nubian Hueman Boutique presents
the Liberated People Trunk Show
The Anacostia Arts Center, Washington DC
Saturday, March 28th
2pm to 6pm.
The show will feature the apparel brand's latest collection, a meet-and-greet with founder Gbenga Akinnagbe (HBO's The Wire, Fox's The Following and 24: Live Another Day, and CBS's The Good Wife), DJ Tytunes (TAGSoundz), and live artist Citizins aka @Truthdondie. “I envisioned a movement centered around a message of unity, global purpose, and freedom that is anchored in dates of liberation,” says Liberated People founder and critically acclaimed actor, activist, and philanthropist Akinnagbe. Designs are inspired by humanity’s common struggle of overcoming oppression through native inspirational imagery.
Born in Washington DC to Nigerian parents and best known for his critically acclaimed acting roles, Akinnagbe had a goal in “creating more than just a fashion line.” The collection currently features styles representing: Brazil, Nigeria, India, Ethiopia, and a Nation States Tee with messages that empower people around the world to engineer change in their lives and the lives of others. A portion of the proceeds from sales for this event will be donated to Beat The Streets - Baltimore, a youth development program that combines amateur wrestling, and academic development and tutoring for Baltimore's youth.
