New York City’s Largest Street Festival Marks 40th Anniversary
Milestone Event Showcases the Best of Brooklyn
Brooklyn, New York — September 18, 2014 – The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) is proud to announce that its 40th Anniversary Atlantic Antic Festival will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from noon – 6:00 pm – rain or shine — along Atlantic Avenue between Fourth Avenue (a block from Barclays Center) to Hicks Street at the waterfront in downtown Brooklyn. The mile-long festival spans four neighborhoods: Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and downtown Brooklyn.
Widely hailed as the largest and best street festival in New York City, and a recipient of numerous awards, this year’s festival will be even bigger and better as the Atlantic Antic celebrates its 40th anniversary. The festival will showcase the growth, beauty and diversity of today’s Brooklyn with 12 stages of live music and performances, 500 craft, food and exhibition vendors alongside over 100 local businesses and restaurants on the avenue. A full block will be dedicated to children and includes pony rides and face painting, and many more children’s shows and activities will be held up and down the avenue. Additionally, the 10-block stretch will hold special events and zones that are both fun and educational, including a Green Zone sponsored by Con Edison, and Investors Bank’s Community Zone.
“This year’s Atlantic Antic promises to be the most exciting and exhilarating festival yet,” said Christian Haag, President of the AADLC. “A smorgasbord of food, music, crafts, shopping, fashion and family fun. And as always, the Atlantic Antic is bringing together some of the most talented musicians.”
At 2 pm, on the Atlantic Antic main stage at the corners of Atlantic Avenue and Clinton Street, the AALDC will present its Pioneer Awards to those businesses that have been on the avenue for the full forty years, including an award to Howard Lewis, who co-founded the Atlantic Antic in 1974 in an effort to preserve the charm and integrity of the avenue and surrounding family neighborhoods.
